History

The Rhumerie des Mascareignes was built in 2006. A new industry on the domain which exemplifies the diversification of the sugarcane industry - since sugarcane culture has been going on for 150 years and still continues, even after the closure of the sugar factory in 1960. The distillery operates from June to December during the sugarcane harvest. It is the pure cane juice that is used in the manufacture of the delicious agricultural rums of the distillery labelled Rhumeur and La Bourdonnais.


During its first year of activity, the Rhumerie des Mascareignes has produced 90,000 litres of pure alcohol (LAP).
